Programs

Cameron has an Advanced Academic Program for students in grades K-6. The school works with teachers to identify students that may benefit from the program, however, you can also request a screening of your child by contact the school directly. If your child is selected for the AAP program they’ll be pulled out with other students throughout the week for those subjects.

Like most school’s in Fairfax County, Lane has an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Cameron has 3 instructors on staff that focus on helping those students achieve academic success.

At Cameron, there are a number of activities for students both during and after school. There’s a Student Council Association (SCA), band, chorus, morning news show, strings and STEAM lab.

Enrollment

There are about 525 students enrolled at Cameron Elementary each school year, with a student-teacher ratio of 16.1 to 1. 

Students living in Huntington, Midtown  Alexandria, Montebello, Burgundy Village and several other smaller subdivision in the area attend Cameron Elementary. Students from Cameron Elementary School feed into Twain Middle and Edison High School.

School Hours

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. Cameron is open Monday through Friday are 9:00 to 4:05. If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Cameron offers SACC which is a before and after-school program with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

Fortunately, if you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.

Parent Involvement

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

Cameron Elementary has an active PTA that meets monthly. The Cameron PTA works to support the students and staff through varies efforts. While most school PTA programs have their own websites that’s not the case with Cameron. They do however have aFacebook page they update regularly.
