4 Things About Rose Hill Elementary

Programs

Rose Hill has an Advanced Academic Program for students in grades K-6. The school works with teachers to identify students that may benefit from the program, however, you can also request a screening of your child by contact the school directly. If your child is selected for the AAP program they’ll be pulled out with other students throughout the week for those subjects.

Rose Hill is a Title I school, which means they receive additional funds through a federal grant to help level the playing field for students in families with lower income. Schools are identified for Title I funds based on the percentage of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals.

Like most school’s in Fairfax County, Rose Hill has an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). Rose Hill has 4 instructors on staff that focus on helping those students achieve academic success.

At Rose Hill, there are a number of activities for students both during and after school. There’s a multicultral festival, reading incentive plans, tutoring,  chorus, band and orchestra.

Schedule

One important thing to consider is the school’s hours of operation. Rose Hill’s hours are Monday through Friday from 9:15 to 4:00 from kindergarten to sixth grade.

Rose Hill is one of the few schools in the area that offer part-time preschool. Morning PreK starts at 9:15 a.m. and ends at 12:35 p.m. Afternoon PreK starts at 12:40 p.m. and ends at 4:00 p.m.

If you need to be at work by 8:30 that could present some challenges for you, especially if you’re commuting to the District or the Pentagon.

Rose Hill offers SACC which is a before and after-school program with the Office for Children of Fairfax County. However, I have to warn you that SACC often times has a waiting list that’s months long. Check out the SACC website to see if there are spots currently available.

Fortunately, if you are unable to get your child signed up for SACC there are a number of private before and after care programs in the area that will drop off and pick up your child.

Parent Involvement

Parent involvement has been linked to student achievement. When looking for a school for your kids you’re also looking for a school that’s a good fit for you as well.

Rose Hill has an active PTA made up of parents, teachers, and staff working together to help every child fulfill their potential through family engagement and advocacy. The PTA meets monthly to plan review and plan events. The Rose Hill PTA has a fantastic website with a calendar of upcoming events, school announcements and the option of signing up for volunteer opportunities.

In addition to the PTA, parents can volunteer to be room parents, help out in the office, library and lunchroom. There are lots of opportunities to support your child and the school. Your level of involvement can be as much or as little as you like.
